Bokhara rugs are hand-knotted Oriental rugs in the Bukhara region of modern-day Uzbekistan. They are known for fine craftsmanship, luxurious textures, and distinctive geometric patterns. The rugs are named after Bukhara, a crucial trading hub on the ancient Silk Road and a melting pot of various cultures and influences.

The rugs were originally called "Tekke" from the Central Asian tribe Tekke, whose rugs were predominantly traded in the markets of Bokhara. The rugs were placed on the floors of palaces and grand temples, eventually giving the city its name.

Bokhara rugs are now made in various carpet-weaving countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, and Afghanistan. They come in various sizes and shapes, occasionally circular or square, and runners. However, they are usually found as rectangular pieces in soft peaches and teals, royal purples and blues, and classic colours like rich reds, blues, and browns. The pile length varies depending on the clipping of the particular rug, and sometimes the pile is intentionally left significantly longer, called a "double pile", resulting in extra thickness and depth.
